Wrapping and Bodywork Technician - Dundee - Electric Bus Fleet

Job description

Ember is the UK's first all-electric coach company. We launched in October 2020 and are now running on seventeen routes – including Dundee to Glasgow, Inverness to Edinburgh and Aberdeen to Perth – with several further routes launching in 2026. We are at advanced stages in developing new charging hubs in Livingston and Glasgow, with many more sites in the pipeline.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Wrapping and Bodywork Technician to join our electric bus maintenance team. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone with a practical background who is comfortable working in a busy workshop environment.

You won't be expected to be a fully qualified wrapper or mechanic, but you'll work closely alongside our team of technicians and play a vital part in keeping our zero-emission fleet on the road.

The ideal candidate will be experienced, energetic and confident with the passion to stay on top of the latest developments in the electric vehicle market. This will be a Dundee-based role - but you’ll also be working closely with the teams in Aberdeen, Livingston and Inverness. We’ll make sure that you’re set up for success, with all necessary training, access to the right vehicle and all of the relevant tools and equipment.

This is a truly unique challenge - our coaches are used more intensively than any other electric vehicles in the world so not every problem will have a solution that can be found in a manual.

We’re looking for a problem-solver who will help to identify and resolve issues quickly, and will relish the challenge of joining a new team that will make our state of the art fleet the best-maintained in the country with the lowest downtime.

If you're practical by nature, take pride in your work, and want to build a career in the growing world of electric vehicle preparation and maintenance, this could be the perfect opportunity.

Responsibilities

As a Wrapping and Bodywork Technician, you're on the front-line. Not only will you be part of the team that’s responsible for optimising the external appearance of the most modern coaches on the road, you'll also have an innate eye for both planned and preventative maintenance, always staying one step ahead of the curve.

You will be helping with the measuring, cutting and application of specialised wrap to Ember’s vehicles and chargers. You’ll take guidance and training from our Senior Vehicle Wrapper, and will be trained in all important aspects by a master of the trade.

You’ll also be helping with routine bodywork, panels and other related defects. For the right candidate, we can also provide detailed training on Ember’s industry-leading onboard technology, allowing you to master not only the appearance of the vehicle but also the important systems that power our growth and ensure the best possible customer experience.

We currently have a team of fourteen employees dedicated to fleet maintenance. You’ll form part of a department that brings all aspects of our maintenance in-house as we continue to grow.

We use technology heavily in the business, primarily building our own software systems. You'll need to be tech-savvy, open to learning new systems and comfortable using remote diagnostics.

Job requirements

You will need to meet these requirements:

  • Some previous experience in a garage, workshop, transport, or similar practical/trade environment

  • A willingness to learn and take direction from qualified wrappers, mechanics and technicians

  • A keenness to engage wherever you can add most value. Some days that might be installing cutting edge tech, others it might be carefully washing a bus to ready it for finishing work. All duties are equally important.

  • Good physical fitness — this is an active, hands-on role

  • A responsible attitude towards Health & Safety in the workplace

  • Basic understanding of vehicle systems is beneficial but full training will be provided

  • Good timekeeping and reliability — our buses run to a schedule and so do we

  • Full UK driving licence
